Faena
The final act of the lidia, the work of the matador with muleta and sword culminating in the kill; by extension, the whole of his performance with one bull.
Muleta
The small heart-shaped cloth of scarlet serge mounted on a stick, used in the last third to dominate and pass the bull before the estocada.
Capote
The large cape of magenta and gold used in the opening third for the lances — the verónica, the chicuelina and the larga.
Verónica
The fundamental cape pass, the matador receiving the bull and leading it past with both hands, named for the veil of Saint Veronica.
Alternativa
The ceremony by which a novillero is confirmed a full matador de toros, receiving muleta and sword from a senior in the ring.
Traje de luces
The "suit of lights" — the silk and gold- or silver-thread costume of the matador, an emblem of the fiesta itself.
Paseíllo
The opening procession across the sand by which the cuadrillas salute the presidency before the corrida begins.
Estocada
The sword-thrust that ends the lidia; the recibiendo, in which the matador awaits the charge, is held the most difficult and noble manner.
